A text does not end with its writing, it is necessary to apply a series of correction criteria known as post-writing phase. Broadly speaking, the essay we have written is only our first draft. This term refers to a writing that is not definitive and is susceptible to modifications. Having said that, we advise you to make a detection reading. The purpose is to identify errors of syntax, spelling, coherence, vocabulary and style. For this purpose we can use underlining and all types of brands. Detection reading and drafts
We propose to make a reading to identify all kinds of errors, then draw up drafts. According to the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, the text must be read aloud. Only in this way are we able to appreciate the quality and the flaw of it. Under a similar criterion, a thorough reading helps to recognize the errors of the essay. Once we have located the faults, we will correct them in a second draft. Regarding this topic, some authors suggest preparing three drafts. Coherence. This criterion consists of verifying that the different paragraphs have a logical relationship. The thoroughness inside this must also be detected.
Cohesion. It is a consequence of the previous one. When counting on a correct coherence, the text is perceived as a unit that can not be dissolved.
Syntax. This aspect is related to the correct construction of sentences. Each of them must be logical and understandable.
Lexicon. The repeated use of the same word should be avoided. Some believe that the same word should not be repeated more than three times in a paragraph. We suggest the use of a thesaurus to replace the most recurrent words.
Orthography. It consists of verifying that the words of the text have been written correctly. In Spanish the accents deserve special attention.
Registration of the language. An academic text can not present words or expressions of common speech. At least, a standard use of the language must be resorted to.
After a long process of planning, writing and correction, it is time to terminate the work. Based on the criteria of this guide for trials, the final step comprises a final reading.
